Some people think that cloning open ups new opportunities.

Nowadays, the possibility of making exact copies of plants, animals and human beings is quite realistic. The idea of genetic reproduction is controversial, though. Some people are deeply suspicious of cloning, while others are all for it. The question arises whether humans have a right to intervene in the creation of new life.

Personally, I do not think that it is a very good idea to clone living creatures.

Firstly, animal and human cloning is expensive and highly inefficient, as more than ninety percent of cloning attempts have failed so far. Secondly, genetically modified creatures normally have poor health and do not live long. For example, Dolly, the first animal that was successfully cloned, died when it was six years old, while the average life expectancy of sheep is ten to twelve years. Thus, it looks like it would be more reasonable to look for another sphere of cloning application.

However, there are the ones who think otherwise. They say cloning is a great step forward in science, which can be beneficial as it could be used to repopulate endangered animal species such as the giant panda or black rhino.

It is just a misconception that cloned animals can be perfect. At least, it has not been proved yet. Instead, it would make more sense to preserve natural habitat and wildlife.

In conclusion, I am definitely sure that cloning is costly and often ineffective. Besides, it does not seem safe for the mankind and animal world. Interference in nature has never given good results. I think cloning can be used in surgery to replace damaged organs.
