It’s easier to make friends, than to keep them

t is a common knowledge, that people often seek someone to share their feelings and emotions with. That is why the question what is easier: to keep friends, or to make new ones has always been a subject of heated discussions.

I consider that making new friends is not as difficult, as keeping the old ones. Firstly, it seems to me that a strong friendship requires, foremost, a huge responsibility between two people, because a friend is always expected to help his comrade in difficult situations, even if it hurts his own interests. Secondly, nowadays, it is much easier to become friends through the Internet, especially through social nets. However, such “virtual” friendship doesn’t really mean any important relations, unless people meet in real life.

On the other hand, some opponents of my opinion might argue, that making a new friend implies very good knowledge of his interests and hobbies.

It can take years for you and your friend to learn each other enough to become “true” friends.

To a certain extent it is right, but, in my opinion, above-given point of view is too conservative. You can easily make friends at your school, institute or just surfing the Internet, and require you to know everything about the people you communicate with.

To sum up, in my view, it is clearly much easier to make friends, than to keep them, though it depends on personal experience and individual circumstances.
